- Eric Howard
Eric Howard is the Founder and Executive Director of the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology, an international organization established by alumni of the Fulbright Exchange Program. Under his leadership, the Fulbright Academy has received funding and support from numerous government agencies, non-profit organizations, universities and corporations.
Eric Sevan Howard was born on December 8, 1964 in
Washington, DC , and grew up inMassachusetts . His academic training was in geology and environmental policy, with a particular interest in climate change and how people and governments manage a physical landscape which is changing because of human and natural forces. He received a BA degree with Honors in Geology fromWesleyan University and a Master of Environmental Management degree fromDuke University . Among other honors, he was a Conservation Fellow atWorld Wildlife Fund , an NNEMS Fellow at theUnited States Environmental Protection Agency , and aFulbright Scholar to West Germany.Mr. Howard was executive director of the Maine Wood Products Association, a trade group that marketed products made by artisans and manufacturers in Maine, the most heavily forested state in the US. He has held research or management positions at Benchmark, a consultancy focusing on international environmental policy, and the World Conservation Union, where he managed the Law & Policy Information Unit (www.ecolex.org). He also worked as an information management and environmental policy consultant to the US Agency for International Development, the UN Information Unit on Climate Change, the UN Biodiversity Convention Secretariat, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, the Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals, and other national and local non-profit organizations.
His writings include the section on Soil & Desertification to the "Yearbook of International Environmental Law" for 1990-1997. He was co-editor of "A Sourcebook for Biological Diversity & Conservation Information" (UNEP/IUCN, 1995). He was co-author of dozens of reports and articles on topics such as environmental reporting, corporate management, public access to information, and economic development. He served as an advisor to Coastal Enterprises Inc, the Maine Technology Institute, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, and the "Review of European Community and International Environmental Law".
