This woreda is primarily inhabited by theDarod clan of theSomali people .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 54,177, of whom 24,735 were males and 29,442 were females; 7,239 or 13.36% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 18.2%.
