Krasnozavodsk ( _ru. Краснозаво́дск; lit. "red factory") is a town in
Moscow Oblast ,Russia , located on the Kunya River (Dubna'stributary ) some 88 km northeast ofMoscow and 15 km north ofSergiyev Posad . Population: 13,500 (2005 est.); 13,549 (2002 Census); 29,786 (1989 Census).Krasnozavodsk was founded in 1915 as a settlement servicing a mechanical factory. Initially, it had no name. After 1917, it would be called Vozrozhdeniye ( _ru. Возрожде́ние, or "Revival"), Zagorsky ( _ru. Заго́рский; due to its vicinity to the then-
Zagorsk ), and Krasnozavodsky ( _ru. Краснозаво́дский). In 1940, the settlement was turned into the town of Krasnozavodsk. In 2000, the town ofPeresvet was detached from Krasnozavodsk.Some seven kilometers north of Krasnozavodsk is the settlement of
Bogorodskoye , known as the center of one of the oldest popularhandicraft s—fretted toys and small sculptures made of soft kinds of wood.
