Phil Jones is an English sports journalist and television reporter.
After obtaining diplomas with distinction in journalism, law, and public administration from Richmond Journalist College in
Sheffield (which has since merged with theUniversity of Sheffield ), Jones' began his career in print and radio journalism. He covered news and sports for theManchester -based David Burke Press Agency, as well as writing regular columns for the "Manchester Evening News ". At Piccadilly Radio, Jones covered stories concerningcricket , football, and rugby.In the early 1990s, Jones became a reporter for the
BBC inLondon , and was part of the team that won "Best TV Coverage in the World" for the1992 Summer Olympics inBarcelona . He was the BBC's main reporter for the1994 Wimbledon Championships , and provided the nightly round-up on "Wimbledon Today" highlights programme. He also contributed to "Grandstand", "Match of the Day ", "Sportsnight ", and "Sport on Friday ", working closely withDes Lynam ,Steve Rider , andSue Barker .
