Raya Azebo is one of the 36
woreda s in theTigray Region ofEthiopia . It is named in part after the Raya andAzebo Oromo two of the three sections that make up theWollo Oromo , who are the northernmost group of theOromo people. These peoples had settled in the area by the 17th century.Located in the
Debubawi Zone at the eastern edge of theEthiopian highlands ,Debubawi Zone , Raya Azebo is bordered on the south by Alamata, on the southwest byOfla , on the northwest byEndamehoni , on the north byHintalo Wajirat , and on the east by theAfar Region . Towns in Raya Azebo include Mersa andWeyra Wuha .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 118,930, of whom 60,497 were males and 58,433 were females; 13,949 or 11.73% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 29.1%. With an estimated area of 1,440.63 square kilometers, Raya Azebo has an estimated population density of 82.6 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 133.18.
