Afambo is one of the 29
woreda s in theAfar Region ofEthiopia . It is named afterLake Afambo , located at the border of this woreda with Asayita, near the international border withDjibouti . Part of the Administrative Zone 1, Afambo is bordered on the south by theOromia Region , on the west by Dubti, on the north by Asayita, and on the east by Djibouti. Information is lacking on the towns of Afambo.The highest peak in this woreda is
Mount Dama Ali . The only perennial river in Afambo is the Awash, which passes through Lake Afambo, and a chain of lakes south and east of it: Laitali, Gummare, Bario, andLake Abbe .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 16,727, of whom 7,938 were males and 8,789 were females.
