Lallan Prasad Singh was governor of
Assam (1973-80),Manipur (1973-80, 1982-83),Meghalaya (1973-80),Nagaland (1973-81), andTripura (1973-80).He died in 1998. He was awarded
Padma Vibhushan award in1999 after his death.He was born in Bihar, India, in the early 1900s and died in New Delhi on October 17th, 1998. He served a long and distinguished career in the Indian Administrative Service (Indian Civil Service in his time.) He held several posts including Union Home Secretary, Governor of the five North Eastern States and Indian Ambassador to Nepal.
Apart from a very distinguished bureaucratic career, Singh also authored two books: "Portrait of Lal Bahadur Shastri: the Quintessential Gandhiian" and "Electoral Reform in India".
He was married to Manorama Singh (nee Mehta) and had four children - Vineeta, Nandini, Vijay and Priyadarshini.
