Abram Elam (born October 15, 1981) is an American football safety in the National Football League who plays for the New York Jets. On September 12, 2007 he signed with the Jets.

Since 1987, three of Elam's siblings have been shot to death. His older brother, Donald Runner, was fatally shot in 1987. His sister, Christina Elam, was killed in 1999. On May 9, 2008, his older brother Donald Elam was fatally shot. Donald Elam was once the youngest person ever indicted for murder in Palm Beach County (age 14), though he was later acquitted.cite news

NFL career

Elam was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on 16 May 2005 but was later waived. On the 2 February 2006 he signed with the Dallas Cowboys but again was later waived. On 12 September 2007 he signed for the New York Jets as a free agent.
