Gaeta , c. 1550 –February 1 1598 ), also known as Il Gaetano, was an Italian lateRenaissance Mannerist or, more properly, "counter-Maniera" painter active inRome . He was a disciple ofJacopino del Conte . he was best known for his portraits.He painted portraits of
Gregory XIII , Cardinal de' Medici and theGrand Duke Ferdinand de Medici , Eleonora de' Medici, and Maria de' Medici. He also painted an "Assumption with the Apostles" forSan Silvestro al Quirinale ; a "Pietà" for theGesu ; and a "Crucifixion" forSanta Maria in Vallicella . He died atRome .External links
