Cristina Pérez (born October 27, 1968) is an American TV judge who had a television show on the Telemundo/NBC network. She was born in New York City, received two BAs at UCLA and her JD at Whittier Law School.[1] Her show, La Corte de Familia ("Family Court") aired on Telemundo.[2]

She hosted the three-time daytime Emmy winning syndicated English-language court show, Cristina's Court, which is filmed at KRIV, the FOX owned-and-operated station in Houston. This made Perez one of four Hispanic judges that presided over an English-language American TV judge show, along with Maria Lopez (Judge Maria Lopez), Alex Ferrer (Judge Alex), and Marilyn Milian (The People's Court). The show was Executive Produced by Peter Brennan, and directed by Arthur Bergel.

Pérez is the first Hispanic judge to cross over from Spanish-language to English-language television. Her ancestry is Colombian, rather than Mexican or Cuban, as had been thought by some of her viewers.[3]

In September 2006 Perez's book Living by Los Dichos: Advice from a Mother to a Daughter was published by Simon & Schuster.[4]

In its first, second and third season, Cristina’s Court won the first three "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program Award" at the 34th, 35th, and 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on June 20, 2008.[5] The series was cancelled in February 2009. Original episodes will continue to be produced and the show will air through September 2009.[6]

On June 25, 2010 Cristina’s Court won its third Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program."[7]

Perez participated in a weekly radio segment called "Sex In the News" on the Playboy Radio, which is broadcast on Sirius satellite radio.[8]

According to the Syndicated Network Television Association, Cristina ranked as one of the most trustworthy and influential syndicated hosts on television, ranking second behind Oprah Winfrey among adults 18 to 34 years old.[9]

In March 2010, Perez's second book It's All about the Woman Who Wears It: 10 Laws for Being Smart, Successful and Sexy Too (published by Penguin Books) was released.[10]

On June 25, 2010, Cristina’s Court won its third consecutive Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program." [11]
