The Pakistani honours system has evolved out of the
Indian honours system and theBritish honours system since 1947, when Pakistan became fully independent within the British Commonwealth (theCommonwealth of Nations since 1949).Dominion of Pakistan (1947-56)
After Pakistan became independent on the
14 August 1947 , the award of honours from both theBritish honours system and theIndian honours system ceased. The conferral ofpeerages ,knighthoods , anddamehoods was prohibited. Those who were awarded titles prior to Pakistan's independence were permitted to retain and use them.Only one medal was instituted in this period;
