Ussery is in his eighth year as president and CEO of the Dallas Mavericks. Formerly, Ussery was president of Nike Sports Management. Prior to that, he was commissioner of the Continental Basketball Association. In 1999, then Texas Governor George W. Ussery grew up in the Watts section of South Central Los Angeles. After graduating from The Thacher School, an elite boarding school in Ojai, California, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1981 at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and a master's degree in 1984 from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 1987, Ussery earned a law degree from the University of California at Berkeley, where he served as executive editor of the California Law Review.
