Kamaraj Plan

Kamaraj Plan

Kamaraj Plan was a political plan formulated in 1963 by K. Kamaraj a senior leader of Indian National Congress, proposing that all senior Congress leaders should resign form their posts and devote all their energy to the re-vitalization of the Congress. The plan had support of Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India.

A number of Central and State ministers like Lal Bahadur Shastri, Jagjivan Ram, Morarji Desai and S.K. Patil followed suit and resigned from their posts.

Kamaraj had noticed that the Congress party was slowly losing its vigor. So he came up with this plan. However some observers think the hidden agenda of the plan was to stifle criticism of Nehru and clear the way for Indira Gandhi.
