Hejiang, (zh-cp|c=合江省|p=Héjiāng shěng) also known as Hokiang, was a province in
Northeast China , which was established in 1945. It was c.52,300 sq mi (135,500 km²) in size and the provincial capital wasJiamusi .History
Medieval history
From 698 to 936, the kingdom of
Balhae occupied northernKorea and parts ofManchuria andPrimorsky Krai , consisting of theNanai , theUdege , and theEvenks and descendants of theTungus -speaking people and the people of the recently fallenGoguryeo kingdom of Korea. Hejiang settled at this moment by NorthernMohe tribes were submitted to Balhae Kingdom under King Mun and reign King Seon's reign (818-830) :
* Funie Mohe (Hangul : 불녈말갈Hanja /Hanzi : 拂涅靺鞨pinyin :Fúniè Mòhé)were located on the south between Hejiang Province andSongjiang Province * Tieli Mohe (
Hangul : 철리말갈Hanja /Hanzi : 鐵利靺鞨pinyin : Tiělì Mòhé) on the west of Hejiang Province* Heishui Mohe (
Hangul : 흑수말갈Hanja /Hanzi : 黑水靺鞨pinyin : Hēishuǐ Mòhé)roughly between the north of Hejiang Province (Shuangyashan ,Jiamusi ,Hegang andYichun ) and the south of actualKhabarovsk Krai (Bikin ,Vyazemsky , Lazo andKhabarovsk neighbourhood).King Seon administrated their territories by creating three prefectures :::* Dongpyeong Prefecture (
Hangul : 동평부Hanja :東平府) with Iju (Hangul : 이주Hanja :伊州), present-dayMishan (Hanzi : 密山pinyin :Mìshān ) as its administrative centre, corresponding to the previous land of the Funie Mohe::* Cheolli Prefecture (
Hangul : 철리부Hanja : 定理府) with Deongnijin (Hangul : 덕리진Hanja :德理鎮) present-dayHarbin (Hanzi : 哈爾濱pinyin :Hā'ěrbīn), as its administrative centre, corresponding to the previous land of the Tieli Mohe::* Hoewon Prefecture (
Hangul : 회원부Hanja : 懷遠府) with Dalju (Hangul : 달주Hanja :達州) present-dayTongjiang (Hanzi :同江pinyin :Tóngjiāng), as its administrative centre corresponding to the southern part of the Heishui Mohe territoryBalhae was an early feudal medieval state of Eastern Asia, which developed its industry, agriculture, animal husbandry, and had its own cultural traditions and art. People of Balhae maintained political, economic and cultural contacts with the southern Chinese

In 1949, the province was incorporated into the
