The spongehead catshark, "Apristurus spongiceps", is a cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae found in the Pacific Ocean from the Banda Sea off southern Sulawesi and the Hawaiian Islands, between latitudes 21° N and 8° S, at depths of between 570 and 1,480. Its length is up to 50 cm.

The poorly-known spongehead catshark is a rare shark known only from two specimens taken on the insular slopes, on or near the bottom.

Coloration is dark brown, without conspicuous markings on fins.

The spongehead catshark is oviparous.
