Peace Queen Cup

Peace Queen Cup

After the success of the Men's Peace Cup, a Women's Peace Cup was created. The inaugural Women's Peace Cup took place from October 28 to November 4, 2006, in South Korea, with eight women's national teams representing five continents: North Korea, South Korea, Denmark, Italy, Brazil, Australia, Nigeria and the United States. On October 11, about a month before the start of the tournament, North Korea pulled out for political reasons tied to their country's nuclear testing program. North Korea was replaced by the Netherlands. Nigeria was replaced by Canada.

From June 14 to 21, 2008, Peace Queen Cup Suwon will host its second tournament. In this tournament, eight teams will participate: Korea Republic, Korea DPR, USA, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Italy and Argentina. Format and prize money will be the same as before.

Format

The competition is played between eight clubs, divided in two groups of four teams each. In the first stage, within their groups the teams play against each other once, and the winner of each group qualifies for the final, which is played in one single match.

Prize money

The prize money of the tournament is US$200,000 for the champion team and US$50,000 to the runner-up.
