Jimmy O'Connor

Jimmy O'Connor

Jimmy O'Connor is a former Irish footballer notable for being the fastest hat-trick scorer in top level domestic league history. He scored three goals for Shelbourne in 2 minutes and 13 seconds, versus Bohemians at Dalymount Park on November 19 1967. Gerry Garvan provided the cross for the last goal.

O'Connor made 109 league appearances, scoring 26 goals, with Shels from 1965/66 to 1971/72.

The record for the world's fastest hat-trick belongs to O'Connor, who scored three goals in 2 minutes and 13 seconds [ [http://www.uefa.com/magazine/news/Kind=134217728/newsId=482063.html UEFA.com] ] (some sources dispute this, and claim the actual time was 2 minutes and 14 seconds) versus Bohemians in Dalymount Park on 19 November 1967.

His son Barry scored 107 league goals in the League of Ireland for clubs such as Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda United, Shelbourne and Kildare County. He also won 4 caps for the Republic of Ireland U21s, scoring once.
