Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai

Prof. Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai,is the chief exponent Padayani and former vice-chairman of the Kerala Folklore Akademi.

He was the son of M.Ramakrishnan Nair and Parukutty amma and was born in the small village named Kadammanitta in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala state. He completed his pre-school and graduated from a Government college in Pathanamthitta. He did his M.Sc in Mathematics from Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and was the first rank holder and passed his Post Graduation with a gold medal. He later came back to Kerala and joined as lecturer in Mathematics in various colleges in Kerala. He worked in N.S.S College Pandalam for the most time till retirement as Head of Department in 2005. He lives in Pandalam. He is married to Smt. Omana Kumariamma and is father of three- Kadammanitta Manu (Mrudangam Artist), Kadammanitta Anu (Singer) and Lakshmi (Violin Artist). His only sister is Smt. Omana Gopalakrishnan. His company with Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan had led to the rise of many literary contributions. He has contributed greatly to the field of Kerala folk-lore. He has written a number of books on Padayani and other folk-lores. He is the recipient of many State Awards for his literary and cultural contributions. His bond with the village and Kerala can be seen clearly in his works.The youngsters of Kadammanitta under the leadership of Prof. Kadammanitta Vasudevan Pillai had formed "Kadammanitta Gothra Kala Kalari" through which this form of art has been taught to many and is being passed over to the generations.
