next_route=280State Route 279 is a five mile
state highway in Jackson County. The southern terminus of the route is at the intersection with State Route 79 south of Scottsboro. The northern terminus is at the intersection with U.S. Highway 72 at Hollywood, just east of Scottsboro. SR-279 is routed along the former route of SR-79. In the 1980’s, a bypass was constructed around the west side of Scottsboro, alleviating congestion in the city. When the bypass was completed, SR-79 was routed on the new roadway, and SR-279 was created. In addition to intersecting with SR-79 and US-72, SR-279 also junctions State Route 35 at Scottsboro.References
