Sisters of the Holy Family-Louisiana

The Sisters of the Holy Family based in New Orleans, Louisiana, were founded in 1837 as the Sisters of the Presentation by Henriette DeLille. In 1842, the order changed its name to the Sisters of the Holy Family.

Based in New Orleans from its inception, the order consists of African-American nuns who operate schools for poor children, nursing homes, and retirement centers. There are 200 members of the order today, and it has missions in New Orleans, Washington, D.C., California, and the Central American country of Belize.
