Lalor is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Lalor, on the Epping railway line. Lalor is unmanned and is in Metcard Zone 2.
Facilities
Lalor station is located at the northern end of the Paschke Crescent level crossing, which also provides station access.
The station consists of two platforms, in an island format, with a large brick building at the Flinders Street end of the station. A large Metcard machine is located at the entrance of the station, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. In the morning tickets, newspapers, drinks and other snacks can be purchased form a small store at the entrance of the station.
Trains to and from Epping station cross at the station due to the single track between Epping and Keon Park.
History
Lalor Station opened in October 1949 as "Rail Motor Stopping Place 77", being served by the Thomastown to Whittlesea railmotor shuttle.[cite journal | year = 1995 | month = November | title = Reservoir - Whittlesea: Signalling and Safeworking | author = Jack McLean | journal = Newsrail | publisher = Australian Railway Historical Society (Victorian Division) | pages = pages 333–337 ] It was later renamed to "Lalor" in 1952, and electrified suburban services were extended 1.6 kilometres to the station in November 1959.
