Mark S. Hyman is an author and a freelance journalist who covers sports business. Hyman co-authored a book with Jon Miller titled "Confessions of a Baseball Purist" (ISBN 0-684-84518-0) The book is an autobiography of Miller. Hyman's book on youth sports and the role of adults will be published by Beacon Press in 2009.

Career

Hyman has been a writer and a contributing editor for "BusinessWeek" since 1997. He also writes columns on youth sports and sports law for the "Sports Business Journal". Before working at "BusinessWeek" and the "Sports Business Journal", he was an enterprise and investigative sports reporter at the "Baltimore Sun" from 1986-1997. He served as the newspaper’s news and investigative reporter in the sports department. His coverage included the cocaine-induced death of Maryland basketball star Len Bias, the political and economic stories behind the construction of Camden Yards, the descent into bankruptcy of Orioles owner Eli Jacobs and purchase of the team by Baltimore lawyer Peter Angelos. Before his stint at the Sun, he was the baseball beat writer at the "Baltimore News American", covering the Baltimore Orioles. He has also worked at the "Dallas Times-Herald", the "Philadelphia Bulletin" and the "Norfolk Ledger-Star".
