"Back and Forth" is a contemporary R&B/hip hop soul song written by R. Kelly for Aaliyah's debut studio album "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number" (1994). It was released as the album's lead single in early 1994 (see 1994 in music). Background and chart performance

"Back and Forth" was produced by R. Kelly and is a club track. The song chronicles a teenage girl who is excited to celebrate the weekend by going to a party and having fun with her friends.

"Back and Forth" was a major success, especially for an artist's debut. The song spent three weeks at number-one on the U.S. Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart. It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 too becoming her first single to do so. The single was also among the top-ten singles in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Canada and Australia.

"Back and Forth" was sampled by dance-pop singer Madonna in her song "Inside of Me". The song was released in 1994 on her sixth studio album, "Bedtime Stories".
