next_year = 1997"Sole d'Europa" (English translation: "Sun of Europe") was the Italian entry in the
Eurovision Song Contest 1993 , performed in Italian byEnrico Ruggeri .The song is a dramatic ballad, with Ruggeri asking the sun to bathe
Europe in light in order that it might forget its troubles. The song was performed first on the night (preceding
Turkey 'sBurak Aydos with "Esmer Yarim "). At the close of voting, it had received 45 points, placing 12th in a field of 25.Italy opted out of the 1994 Contest and in fact would not return at either of the two Contests after that. Thus, the song was succeeded as Italian representative at the 1997 Contest by
Jalisse with "Fiumi di parole ".
