The Newberry High School band is called the "Band of Pride"[2] and is under the direction of Mr. H. Clay Cobb. Mr. Cobb previously directed Eastside High School's band and began teaching at Newberry High School in 2006. The school's marching band performs at all home football games, many away games, and at local and district competitions. The school's symphonic band performs one free concert per semester and at district performance assessments.
Athletics
Newberry High School's mascot is the "Panthers" or "Fighting Panthers". The girls' athletic teams use the name "Lady Panthers". The school offers nine sports: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and weightlifting.
The football team has recently improved under the direction of Tommy Keeler, who began coaching in the 2004-05 school year. In 2008, the Panthers were undefeated at 12-0 and won both the District Title and the Regional Title. The team placed second in Florida and several team members were recognized at the state level. Newberry offers Varsity and Junior Varsity teams in both girls' and boys' basketball. In December 2006, the Varsity Boys' team won both the Santa Fe and Bronson Tournament. In 2006, the Varsity Girls' soccer team placed 2nd in districts and advanced to its first ever trip to regionals.
The football team was recently taken over by Bryan Roundtree. He has done a great job with the junior varsity and the varsity.
The high school's cheerleaders are split into the NHS Football Cheerleaders, the NHS Basketball Cheerleaders, and the NHS Competition Cheerleaders. The Competition Cheerleaders have generally placed either 1st or 2nd in the 2004-2007 school years.
