Kayla Marie Sharland (born
October 30 ,1985 inPalmerston North ) is afield hockey striker fromNew Zealand , who represented her native country at the2004 Summer Olympics inAthens, Greece . There she finished in sixth place with the Women's National Team. Sharland made her international senior debut for the "Black Sticks" in2003 againstCanada in front of a home crowd at the Hockey Manawatu Fitzherbert Park Twin Turfs in Palmerston North, whilst still a pupil atPalmerston North Girls High School .In a continuing effort to develop her game, Sharland travelled to
Germany in2005 for a stint withMannheim , the National League club side coached by Germany national coachMarkus Weise . She received specialist drag flick coaching while in Germany. Sharland has been nominated for the "2005 WorldHockey Junior Women’s Player of the Year".In 2006, Kayla, while sidelined with a knee injury, was the assistant coach of the Central Mysticks National League side who placed 4th in the 2006 Hockey NZ National League.
