Spirit is Princess Adora's horse. He was given to her when she was the leader of The Horde. Before Adora is given the Sword of Protection by The
Sorceress of Castle Grayskull , Spirit is an ordinary horse. When Adora transforms intoShe-Ra and saves her brother,He-Man fromHordak 's Magna-Beam Charger, she leaps out of the Magna Beam chamber, and into the Horde Stables, she lands on Spirit's back, and tells the horse to run toThe Whispering Woods , but as she does, the horse is suddenly surrounded by an energy field of the same enchantment that transformed Adora into She-Ra. It is at this point in time that Spirit is magically transformed into a majestic wingedunicorn . From this moment onwards Spirit also possesses the power of speech. Although just an ordinary horse, Spirit is shown to be no soft touch, and is able to overturn aHorde Trooper 's vehicle. Before Adora finds out about her true destiny as She-Ra, Swift Wind is a normal horse, known as Spirit. It is only on one fateful day, when Adora transforms into She-Ra, that Spirit is also transformed into the Winged Unicorn, Swift Wind. Toward the end of the series, it is revealed that Swift Wind is to become a father. His mate, Star Wind is to bear his baby, but she is captured by
Hordak and taken to Beast Island. If she is not taken back to Unicorn Island before the baby is born it will not be born a unicorn. When the Horde are beaten the baby is born. But the baby is born away from Unicorn Island so is born as a normal horse. She-Ra asks Swift Wind if he is upset that his baby is not a winged unicorn. He says that he is happy the baby is healthy. She-Ra remembers that when Spirit was a normal horse she managed to transform him into a unicorn, so uses the power in the Sword of Protection to transform the baby into a winged unicorn. Swift Wind, like Spirit has the ability to talk. Swift Wind possess powers which Spirit does not have. He is able to communicate telepathically with She-Ra, other unicorns and other flying horses. He also possess great strength when in this form. Most notable is the time when he is able to move one of Etheria's moons to stop one of
Catra 's attacks. He also displays great speed, ability to fly faster than a falling spaceship, and on one occasion is able to fly around Etheria against the planet's rotation. By doing this, he is able to transport himself and She-Ra into the past.
