Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is the Home & Tourism Minister of Kerala. He was born at Kodiyeri, Kannur district.

He is elected to the Polit bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)in the XIX Party Congress held at Coimbatore.He entered Politics while a student and was an active worker of Students Federation of India (SFI) serving as its state secretary between 1973-79 and the Joint Secretary, SFI National Committee, President, DYFI, Kannur District Committee, Secretary, CITU Area Committee; Secretary, Toddy Tappers Union, Thalassey Range; Secretary, Lorry Drivers and Cleaners Union, Thalassery; Joint Secretary, Karshaka Sangham State Committee; Secretary, CPI (M) Kannur District Committee. He was founder President of Thalassery Co-operative Hospital and Thalassery Co-operative Press. He was arrested under MISA and imprisoned for 16 months during the period of Emergency. He is a member of the CPI(M) central committee. He is also the CPI(M) Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader in the Kerala assembly. Previously elected to Kerala assembly in 1982,1987 and 2001. Now elected from Tellichery.

He is the son of Kunhunni Kurup and Narayani Amma. He is married to S.R. Vinodini and has two sons.
