Heart Peaks is a late-
Cenozoic shield volcano , capped by rhyoliticlava domes . The basal shield rises roughly Unit m|900|0 above local topography and is composed of flat-lyingbasalt ic and trachybasaltic lava flows andpyroclastic s. The most recent eruption at Heart Peaks is of dominantlyPleistocene age, and late-stageHolocene activity is uncertain. The shield volcano rises above theHeart Peaks Plateau which is sculpted on all sides by tributaries of theInklin River , which is the east fork of theTaku River . The steep-sided lava domes of the Heart Peaks Formation are formed of porphyritic rhyolitic and minor trachytic rocks and occupy the western side of the plateau.ee also
