Len Gilmore

Leonard Preston Gilmore (born November 3, 1917) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who appeared in one game for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1944. The 26-year-old rookie right-hander stood 6'3" and weighed 195 lbs. He was born in Fairview Park, Indiana.

Gilmore is one of many ballplayers who only appeared in the major leagues during World War II. On the last day of the season (October 1), he got the opportunity to start the second game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Blue Jays at Shibe Park. Gilmore pitched a complete game, walking no one, but gave up 13 hits and 7 earned runs in 8 innings, and the Pirates lost 7-1.

In his brief Major League career, Gilmore posted a record of 0-1 and a 7.88 ERA.
