Lon Non was a
Cambodia n politician and younger brother of Prime MinisterLon Nol . He served in the National Assembly of Cambodia and supported his brother Lon Nol and PrinceSisowath Sirik Matak in deposingNorodom Sihanouk as head of state. His other brother,Lon Nil , was also a supporter, and was captured by villagers that supportedNorodom Sihanouk and was killed.Lon Non refused to leave Cambodia under the request of the United States government and worked along with
Long Boret and PrinceSisowath Sirik Matak under a cease fire agreement to end the fighting with the Khmer Rouge. Lon Non did this in spite of his name being on a death list broadcast byNorodom Sihanouk of those who would be subject to summary execution after a Khmer Rouge victory. They remained in office until theKhmer Rouge capturedPhnom Penh onApril 17 1975 . He was detained at the Information Ministry. Its first action was ordering the immediate execution of Lon Non and other leading government figures. He was executed on the grounds of the Cercle Sportif in Phnom Penh.
