Habib public school

Habib Public School Karachi is a boarding university-preparatory school located at Karachi, Pakistan.

History

The School started on 7 July 1959 with four blocks of buildings, named, Ahmed House, Ghulam Ali House, Dawood House, and Sharif House. The first administrator of the School was late Mr. Yusuf Qasim, who supervised the construction work as well as carried out admissions and appointment of staff.

On the first day only three applications were received. However within one year there were no seats available. This was in spite of the fact that the premises were considered isolated and marshy. There was no public transport facility in this area. Some children used to walk from places as far as Saddar or Cantt Station.

By 1963, in a short period of four years, the School had become one of the high-profile schools of Karachi. The School became well known throughout the country and also internationally. The school became the leading school of the city and the elite of the city turned for admission of their children.

Land was reclaimed from the sea and, over a period of 15 years, facilities were added for a second hockey field, a swimming pool, an auditorium, Physics and Chemistry labs and Secondary and Cambridge classrooms.

The school has been a full day school from its start, emphasizing on whole-child development and not only classroom learning. The school also provided fee concessions, stationery and uniforms to the needy students so that it should not become a school for the rich only. At present the fee concession exceeds Rs.5 million annually. The Cambridge system of education was also introduced in 1977 with first batch graduating in 1979

Habib Public school was a pioneer in introducing computer education in schools. The program was supported by BCCI, when it launched its computer education in schools in 1983.

Habib Girls School

History

Habib Girls' School is the realisation of a dream by the late R.D.Habib who felt that education was the basic element for empowering the Muslim female population of the new nation. Forty years on the school has become one of the leading school for girls due to the tireless efforts of the first Trustees, notably Mr. Hamid D. Habib, Mr. Rashid D. Habib and Mr.Yusuf Qasim and the first Principal, Zubaida Dossal who continues to guide the school with her expertise and experience.

Ms. Adiba Antara Jaigirdar was the very first teacher (later to become the second Principal in 1989)) was the first teacher to be appointed, followed by Mrs. Rajab Ali, Mrs. Abbas, Mrs. N. Husain (later Head Teacher of the Primary section) and others joined up in the first year itself. Regular classes began from August 19, 1964 with eighty students and eight teachers. Miss Batool, daughter of Mr. Kazim Husein was the first student to be registered in the school. The first batch of students appeared for the Board examination in 1970.

Custom built Nursery block was added in 1965. The buildings of the school built with an emphasis on proper light and fresh air. The school management’s concern for environment can be gauged from the fact that the Nursery Block was shifted to accommodate an old tree. Indeed, the greenery inside the school is the envy of many other institutions and a pleasing experience for the school family and visitors. The school is fortunate to have a band of hard working gardeners to ensure it.

Premises

Habib Girls’ School is spread over 3.24 acres of land. There are four blocks of buildings. In the planning of the buildings, as well as the Nursery Block, emphasis was laid on the availability of natural light and fresh air which are considered important for the learning ability of children. The placement of classes has been made age-group wise so that young pupils are not overwhelmed by older ones

The school resources comprise classrooms, three libraries, two computer labs. Two science laboratories, one Auditorium, one Multi-purpose shed with stage.
