Nawab Haider Naqvi

Syed Nawab Haider Naqvi is a noted economist and scholar of Pakistan.

Prof. Dr. Syed Nawab Haider Naqvi was born in Maraith, in 1935. He migrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1950.

Following his master's degree from the Yale University in 1961, he earned his doctorate from the Princeton University in 1966. After finishing his post-doctorate research from Harvard University in 1970 he carved a career pathway that is studded with high portfolios, challenging responsibilities and distinguished accomplishments. Besides holding many high level positions, Syed Nawab Haidar Naqvi has also been Director, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, and until recently Senior Economic Advisor, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and Rector (Designate), Kausar University of Sciences, Islamabad.

• Senior Economic Adviser, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), (April 1998 to February 2000).
• Economic Adviser, MCB Institute for Development Research (1995–1996).
• Director, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad (2 January 1979 - 10 July 1995). The Director is in Grade-22 and has been placed in Article 16 of the Warrant of Precedence for Pakistan . His status was equivalent to a Federal Secretary.
• Chief, Economic Affairs Division, Government of Pakistan (1 October 1971 to 1 September 1972).
• Officer-in-Charge and Senior Research Economist, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (March 1967 to 15 September 1971).
