The team was named the SkyChiefs from 1997-2006, but the nickname was changed back to the Chiefs in December 2006. On September 20, 2008, it was announced that the Chiefs have signed a two-year affiliation agreement with the Washington Nationals.

The Chiefs have played at Alliance Bank Stadium (formerly P&C Stadium), since 1997. Previously, the team played at MacArthur Stadium.
