Akadimia Platonos

Akademia Platonos (Greek: Ακαδημία Πλάτωνος) is a subdivision located 3 km west-northwest of the downtown part of the Greek capital of Athens. The area is named after the Plato's Academy in which is an academy that dates back to ancient times. The area are residential mainly living in eight to ten storey homes in parts of the municipality. The subdivision has no squares but has a nearby school. Major streets bordering this subdivision includes Lenorman Avenue to the east, Palamidou Street to the south and Athinon Avenue (GR-8 and GR-8A and E90 westbound. Squares includes Akademia Platonos and Metaxa The population are around 10,000 to 15,000 and the area is 1 km². The area features a newspaper factory.

History

The Plato's Academy was first built in the area. The area saw housing developments in the early part of the 20th century when Athens' began to grow as well as an industrial being added, the area after World War II and the Greek Civil War saw taller buildings to be added.

Neighborhood streets runs from WSW to ESE and from NNW to SSE This list excludes major streets mentioned above. There are 30 streets and avenues in this subdivision.

Akademia Platonos has a schools, lyceums (middle schools), gymnasia (secondary schools), a churches, banks, shops and squares ("plateies"). The nearest Attiko Metro subway station is to the east.
