- Truce of Jam Zapolski
The Truce of Jam Zapolski was a treaty of
truce for ten years, which, following theSiege of Pskov , concluded the lengthyLivonian war (1558 -1582 ), and in a larger picture, the 16th century series ofRusso-Lithuanian Wars . It was concluded with help ofpapal legatus Antonio Possevino and was signed inJanuary 15 1582 for thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealth by King of Poland and Grand Duke of LithuaniaStefan Batory and forRussia byTsar Ivan the Terrible , and established a 20-yeartruce . In the terms of the treaty, Russia renounced its claims toLivonia andPolotsk but conceded no core Russian territories as Batory returned the territories his armies had been occupying (particularly, he gave up on thesiege of Pskov and left the town ofVelikiye Luki . Thetruce was extended for twenty years in1600 , when adiplomatic mission toMoscow led byLew Sapieha concluded negotiations with TsarBoris Godunov .
