"The Centre of the Heart" is a song by Swedish duo Roxette's 2001 album "Room Service". The single was only released commercially in Europe (Except for the UK) and Australia. It was the group's third no.1 in Sweden where it remained on the top spot for 4 weeks. It also was a medium-sized hit in many other European countries, and fans have always asked "why wasn't this released world wide at the time." Record company EMI didn't want to release the single at the end of the day, they wanted to release 'Milk and toast and honey' from "Room Service" as the first single, as they said Roxette are more known for their ballads, Roxette disagreed. So in the end EMI released no lead single to support the album. This explains why the album didn't go on to do as well as everyone thought it would. Then EMI knew this mistake would hamper the success of the album and tried to amend it which failed, which lead to the hits collection being put together.

The song was originally considered as the first single from the group's "Have a Nice Day" album in 1999 but ultimately became an outtake. It was also the most expensive video made by Roxette costing near half a million to make.

A Remix cd was released to promote the single further, much like the Remix Singles of "Wish I Could Fly" and "Stars".

On 23 February 2001, Roxette performed "The Centre of the Heart" at the break during the Swedish Melodifestivalen 2001.
