Corporate history

Established in 1996 as a member of the Rad Group of companies under the name “Giganet”, Ceragon Networks was first listed on the NASDAQ on September 6, 2000 (symbol: CRNT).

Ceragon designs and manufactures high-capacity communication systems for wireless backhaul – addressing the segment of the cellular market that connects a typical cell tower or towers to an operator’s core network. Ceragon provides wireless solutions based on microwave with speeds ranging from 5 Mbit/s up to 1 Gbit/s per radio channel.

In January 2011 Ceragon acquired Nera Networks, a leading wireless backhaul provider based in Bergen, Norway.

Ceragon markets its solutions under the FibeAir family brand (Short-Haul solutions) and the Evolution family brand (Long-Haul solutions). Ceragon has a customer base of over 230 service providers of all sizes, and hundreds of private networks in more than 130 countries across the globe.

Ceragon has numerous sales offices located throughout North and South America, EMEA and Asia, handling direct sales. Partnerships with leading distributors, VARs and system integrators around the world provide an active indirect channel. Its US headquarters was opened in 1999 and its European headquarters in 2000.

Wireless Backhaul

The backhaul of the network is recognized as a major enabler of network performance. In order to deliver the expected bandwidth requirements of newer technologies such as WiMAX, 3G and 4G/LTE, the backhaul is critical. Wireless backhaul enjoys a growing popularity with both fixed and mobile carriers who wish to speed their network deployments and cut back on both CAPEX and OPEX.

For service providers migrating to 4th generation mobile technology, LTE, high-capacity backhaul is essential for ensuring continuous delivery of rich media service across high-speed data networks. If the backhaul and its components are not cost-effective, resilient, scalable and able to supply sufficient capacity then a providers’ entire network can be seriously compromised – resulting in significant customer churn.

As wireless backhaul systems take more and more tasks in next generation IP networks, their ability to provide better bandwidth utilization along with guaranteed high-quality and constant streaming of critical services becomes a true differentiator.
