Kansas City Police Officers Association

The Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police was originally established as the Kansas City Police Officers' Association in 1999 to represent the sergeants, police officers, and detectives of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD). The members of the KCPD share the unique distinction with the St Louis Police Department, of being the only police officers in the United States designated "Officers of the State [http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/C000-099/0840000710.HTM] " and administered by a Board of Police Commissioners who are appointed in staggered terms [ref http://www.moga.mo.gov/statutes/C000-099/0840000360.HTM] by Missouri's sitting Governor [ref http://www.gov.mo.gov/] . This practice was begun in 1874 and continued until 1932 when the KCPD was returned to city control [ref ] . The police department was returned to state control in 1939 due to overwhelming local political corruption of the Pendergast era [ref http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Pendergast] and the department remains under state control to this day.

In 2007 the Kansas City Police Officers' Association, FOP Lodge #99 was reorganized as the Kansas City Missouri Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #99 in an ongoing effort to better represent the officers of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and continue to support the development of a more professional working environment for the officers of the Kansas City Police Department and in turn provide the best possible service to the community.

The KCFOP [http://www.kcfop.org] is one chapter of the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police that represents more than 5300 sworn officers in the great State of Missouri [http://www.mofop.org] and in turn is a member lodge of the National Fraternal Order of Police [http://www.fop.net] .

The independent organization, The Friends of the KCFOP Political Action Committee [ref http://www.friendsofthekcfop.org] works in support of the interests of KCFOP and of bettering service to the citizens of Kansas City [ref http://www.kcmo.org] and of the Great State of Missouri [ref http://www.mo.gov/] .
