- Robert Baldick
Robert Baldick (1927–1972) was a British French scholar, writer, editor of the Penguin Classics series and a well-known
translator . He was a Fellow ofPembroke College, Oxford .He wrote eight books including biographies of
Joris-Karl Huysmans , Frederick Le Maitre andHenry Murger and a history of theSiege of Paris . In addition he edited and translated "The Goncourt Journals" and a number of the classics of French literature including works byGustave Flaubert ,Chateaubriand ,Jean-Paul Sartre ,Jules Verne , andHenri Barbusse , as well as a number of novels byGeorges Simenon .Bibliography
