U-Pop is a satellite radio channel programmed by Washington, DC based 1worldspace. It is heard globally on WorldSpace's Afristar and Asiastar satellites, and in North America on XM Satellite Radio; channel 29 on both services. The channel is also aired as part of XM's offerings on DirecTV on channel 824. The channel features hit music from around the globe including hits from Europe, Japan, Africa, America and Latin America.

XM Hiatus of U-Pop

XM Radio Has placed U-Pop on Temporary Hiatus several times over the life of the channel.
* In November and December of 2006 and 2007, XM placed U-Pop on temporary hiatus to free up channel 29 for its "Holly" Christmas music format.
* The channel was preempted again between 2008-07-15 and 2008-08-15 for "30 Days of Coldplay" on XM51. During this period, XM29 was a simulcast of the Coldplay content on XM51. The decision to put the channel on hiatus has some customers [http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=104234.msg820557] upset.
* U-Pop remained on hiatus on Physical XM receivers (but completly off the air instead of a simulcast as during the "30 Days of Coldplay"), as XM Radio has decided to use the bandwidth for further special channels, including "Mandatory Metallica" which ran on XM51 from 2008-08-16 through 2008-09-30.
* U-Pop is still available on DirecTV on channel 824 as part of the XM radio offerings on DirecTV.
