AKS Continental

AKS (Auto Kraft Shells) of Southmill Road, Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire produced GRP bodyshells to chiefly fit the Ford 8 and Ford 10 chassis, although other ladder frames of convert|7|ft|6|in|m|sing=on wheelbase could be used. In styling the shell, the proprietors Sturgeon and Powell were inspired by the 1955 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider.

Models

*The AKS Continental Mark 1, a two seat roadster, was launched in January 1959.

*In July, a coupé version was added: the AKS Continental Mark 2.

*March 1960 saw the introduction of the Continental Mark 3, a four-seat family saloon.

*In July 1961, a detachable hard top was offered to fit the Mark 1.

*The Mk4 was AKS's swansong: it was a budget version of the Mk1. A mere £55 bought a bare shell complete with chassis mounting frame and a polished aluminium grill.
