Michigan eLibrary

The Michigan eLibrary, or MeL, is a project of the Library of Michigan. It is partially funded by the Library of Michigan as well as by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

MeL is Michigan's 24/7 digital library and is one of the oldest online libraries on the Internet (beginning in 1992 with the gopher GoMLink)

MeL pays for state-wide access to over 40 commercial databases, contains librarian-recommended Web sites on topics such as genealogy and business, economics and labor, and hosts MeLCat, a statewide borrowing system that allows users to place their own interlibrary loan requests if they belong to a participating library. An upcoming component of MeL is digitized collections of primary resource materials in Michigan's history.
