Liahona Preparatory Academy is a
private school inUtah County ,Utah ,United States , founded by Brent and Kolleen DeGraff, that teaches students grades 5-12. They blend core academics and the principles of the LDS Church. Liahona has been in operation 11 years, since 1996. Liahona teaches four basic classes; history, science, English, and math. They also teach electives such as dance, Spanish, drama, and choir. Liahona currently has enrolled almost 200 on-campus students.Elementary
On July 3rd, 2008 Liahona Preparatory Academy announced the opening of Liahona Elementary k-4. Classes will be held at the Liahona Campus at 801 North 300 East in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Sister Kathy Drake,who is a Golden Apple award winner with a Master Equivalency, is on to teach next year. Other teachers include, Brock and Millie Degraff, and Analee Barajas.
Distance Education
Liahona is Unique in the sense that they have a distance education system. Each week the students and teachers are filmed in the three main classes, (History, Science and English) and then are put on DVDs which are sent to nearly 2000 students world-wide. The teachers who are filmed are:

Location
Liahona Preparatory Academy Secondary (5-12) is currently located at just off the freeway in Pleasant Grove, Utah. The Elementary (pre-4) is located at 801 n. 300 e. also in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Courses
This year Liahona offers: European History, Civics, Plant and Animal Biology, Earth Science, English, Math 65, 76, 87, Algebra 1/2, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Advanced Math, Drama, Choir, Dance, Financial Literacy, World Geography, Photography, Advanced Reading, Photo Shop, Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Journalism, Fitness for Life, and Life Management.
Youth Conference and other activities
Each year Liahona students attend a week long Youth Conference at Aspen Grove up Provo Canyon. Many activities happen there as well as many Youth speakers and entertainers. Youth Conference took place October 8-12, 2007. Also each year Liahona students take a service trip to Mexico to help out the two orphanages which the school has adopted. They also go on a Super Trip in the Summer. Former Super Trips have been to Colorado, New York, Back East, London, Scotland and many other places. In June the student's went to Mexico on a Service/Super trip.

Service
In November, the student's at Liahona Academy sold cookie dough made be Craver's Cookies to raise money for orphans in Mexico. The students exceeded their goal, when they raised over $11,000! The student's who sold the most were awarded a free trip to Mexico in June.
This past June over 100 campus and distance eduction students and their families went on a service trip to Cancun, Merida, and Akumal Mexico. They spent many hours helping at two different orphanages. One in Cancun and one in Merida. Among other things they, brought toys, clothes and candy, provided dental and medical assistance, donated playground equipment, painted many rooms, laid sealant on the roofs, replaced old water hold, cleaned up and weeded the yard, painted outside, and played with the kids. It was a wonderful experience for all who went. Liahona students will be selling cookie dough again to raise money coming this November.

Athletic Department
Liahona has an impressive athletic department that played in the CSSL (Charter and Small School League of Utah) Their basketball team went 7-1 in 2007 winning the state championship against Lincoln Academy by 19. Their Soccer team went 12-0 also beating Lincoln Academy in the State championship by two in a shoot-out. This year Liahona plays in the USSA (Utah School Sports Association) and has the state tournament in April. Liahona will move to the UHSAA (Utah High School Activities Association) and to the 1A/2A division next year and play in Region 18.
Future Plans
Liahona plans on growing next year athletically by adding a Girls basketball, Coed Golf, and Girls Volleyball teams for the 2008-2009 season. Liahona has been accepted by the Utah High School Athletics Association (UHSAA) and will be 2A in Soccer, Track, Cross Country and Basketball next year.

Liahona's Varsity Basketball team played in the Bettye J. Memorial Tournament in Denver, Colorado March 6-9, 2008.
