Barbara Howe

Barbara Howe is the chair of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina. She was the party's candidate for Governor of North Carolina in 2000 and 2004, and in 2007, was elected to her third term as state chair, having served two terms previously from 2001 to 2005. [http://www.newsobserver.com/659/story/571531.html] Born in Wingate, North Carolina, Howe attended Pfeiffer College, earning degrees in English and psychology. She and her husband, Tom, have been libertarian activists for over twenty years; they have three children, all of whom they home-schooled. Howe, currently a resident of Oxford, North Carolina, also volunteered extensively with La Leche League, a breastfeeding support and advocacy organization. Howe has also made bids as the Libertarian candidate in races for U.S. Senate (1998), and for the North Carolina House of Representatives (1992, 1996, 2002). In 2008, North Carolina State Auditor Les Merritt nominated Howe to serve on the Local Government Commission (LGC) Task Force on Project Development Financing.
