- MIL-STD-1760
The MIL-STD-1760 communications bus is derived from the earlier
MIL-STD-1553 and provides additional safety features such as message integrity validation using CRCs. 1760 is primarily used for "stores management" - this is for communicating with external stores and weapons carried by modern combat aircraft.Fundamentally, 1760 is a layer on top of 1553 - standard 1553 interfaces can be used with 1760 implementations. All the 1760 specifics can be done in software and written to 1553 message buffers.
1760 also uses external hardware signals to assign the 1553 Remote Terminal address (five bits plus parity) and requires the RT to respond on the bus with the BUSY bit set in the status word within 150 milliseconds. The RT must be operational and respond without the BUSY bit set within 500 milliseconds. Many 1553 interface products include external RT address lines and can meet the power-up response time requirement of 1760.
