Richard Thomas Russell is the creator of the
BBC BASIC for Windowscomputer language and the author of the Z80 andMS-DOS versions of BBC BASIC.He was educated at
Gravesend Grammar School and graduated in 1973 with a degree inphysics from theUniversity of Oxford in the UK. The same year he started at theBritish Broadcasting Corporation as adesign engineer .During his career with the BBC he was involved withseveral high-profile projects including the BBC Microcomputer and the
BBC Domesday Project . He retired from the BBC in2006 .His '2D DVE for Virtual Studios' won VideoR&D Achievement of the Year at the International Broadcasting Awards 1996,and his hardware implementation of the BBC's patented Transform
PAL Decoderhas been acclaimed as probably the best PAL decoder in the world.He is married and lives in
