Gerard "Turk" Gallant (born
September 2 , 1963 inSummerside, Prince Edward Island ,Canada ) is a Canadianice hockey coach and former NHL player.Gallant was drafted by the
Detroit Red Wings in the1981 NHL Entry Draft , sixth round, one-hundred seventh overall.He scored 211 goals in 615 games as a leftwinger for the Red Wings andTampa Bay Lightning . He also scored 18 playoff goals. His nickname is a shortened form of a nickname his older brother used for him: "Turkey".Gallant was known as a power forward during his time with the Red Wings, and served as an alternate captain alongside
Bob Probert andRick Zombo .He was the
head coach of theNational Hockey League 'sColumbus Blue Jackets before being fired on Monday, November 13, 2006.Gallant is now an assistant coach for the
