The All-Ireland Hurling Championship 1970 ran from May to September of that year. The All-Ireland Hurling Final was won by Cork who beat Wexford by 6-21 to 5-10.

All-Ireland Final

Before the sliothar had even been thrown in the match was to go down in history as it was the first 80-minute final ever played. Cork were appearing in their second consecutive All-Ireland final, however, there were eight personnel and positional changes from the team that were defeated by Kilkenny. A feature of the Wexford team was the presence of four Quigley brothers, Dan, John, Martin and Pat, all in the starting fifteen.

Cork had the lion's share of the play in the first half, with the match developing into a one-sided affair. A goal by Cork's Eddie O'Brien after 11 minutes gave the Leesiders a lead that theywould never lose. O'Brien scored two more goals in the final, becoming the only player in the modern era to score a hat-trick in an All-Ireland final. Cork scored another three goals while Wexford scored five goals in all. In spite of the high scoring the match generated little excitement with Cork winning easily by 6-21 to 5-10. With 64 scores recorded it remains the highest scoring All Ireland Final match although it should be noted that finals have been reduced to 70 minutes since 1975.
