Sh'or Yoshuv is a Haredi
yeshiva headed byRabbi Naftali Jaeger who serves as itsRosh Yeshiva and Rabbi Avrohom Halpern as itsMenahel . The school was founded in1967 by RabbiShlomo Freifeld , former "mashgiach ruchani " ("dean of students") atYeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin . Rabbi Freifeld was a master pedagogue with great insights into people and what could motivate them. The school was located in Far Rockaway from its inception until2003 , when it moved to Lawrence, New York. The Yeshiva now occupies several buildings, the facilities include a large Bais Medrash, classrooms, English and Hebrew libraries, a gymnasium, and dormitory accommodations.Students come to Sh’or Yoshuv from the surrounding community and diverse locations from all over the world. The yeshiva accepts students from the age of 17 and older. Ranging in backgrounds and educational experience, Sh'or Yoshuv caters to both the novice and the experienced Torah scholar, the
Baal teshuva (a returnee to traditional Judaism) and the advanced yeshiva-educated youth.Academic programs
Sh'or Yoshuv has recently included asemicha (Rabbinical Ordination) program underRabbi Eliyahu Schneider (the first "graduates" received their semicha in the 2006-2007 zman).Also, the Yeshiva offers aBachelor of Talmudic Law .Daily events
There are many
chabura s andshiur im that begin from 4:30am until 8:45am for the community as part of the morningKollel . A few organized shiurim and chaburas also occur at night similarly for members of the community.The Yeshiva hasShacharis at 6am, 7am, and in the mainBeis Medrash at 7:45am. MorningSeder is officially scheduled from 9:30am until 1:30pm followed byMincha . There is a daily 9pmMaariv and also 9:45pm in the main Beis Medrash. There is 6:35pm minyan that is either Mincha or Maariv depending on the season. Afternoon Seder is from 3-6:30, Night Seder at 8-9:45.Weekly events
Sh'or Yoshuv also has a weekly Kollel on Sunday (Kollel Yom Rishon) with shiurim by the Rosh Yeshiva also for members of the community beginning with 7:45am Shacharis and followed by Breakfast and Learning.
The
Rosh Yeshiva gives a "shiur klali" (general lecture) on both Monday and Wednesday from 12:45pm until 1:30pm Mincha and a schmooze on the weeklyparsha on Thursday from 1:10 until 1:30.External links
